Balloons! Balloons! Balloons! A child’s paradise – and this is what greeted visitors to the launch of Salome and Gogo Visit Soweto. Author Cora Groenewald has two young children and so she knows what they enjoy, and balloons it is.
This beautifully illustrated book describes a young girl’s visit to Soweto, the home of her Gogo. Gogo shows her many wonderful, colourful and vibrant things in this unique place. There is even a pink taxi for Salome to ride in.
Jann Weeratunga (Polly's Piralympics) and Polly visited to play MC - although Jann behaved, there were moments when Polly

did not! (watch the video to see Polly's antics!). During the event, the story was read by the author’s sister-in-law in a manner which had everyone captivated. Even when playing with the balloons covering the floor of the venue, the children were listening. This was shown when they were able to answer questions about the story in order to win prizes.
Will there be more in this series? YES! According to the author, several more are in the works and I, for one, look forward to seeing more.
Together, author Cora Groenewald and illustrator Julie Sneedon have produced a book to be enjoyed
by all young readers. This book is currently available in both English and Afrikaans.
