Speak Connect Succeed by Aletta Rochat

Every book launch is different – the theme of the book, the personalities and the attendees drawn by the author all create the atmosphere during the event. Aletta Rochat is a well-known speaker and speaking coach and so this launch reflected just that. Speak Connect Succeed is the second book Ms Rochat has written. The first, A Wedding Speakers Guide was published in 2013, so it has been a while since she has written – but Speak Connect Succeed has been worth the wait.

Lazola Belle (a well-known speaker himself) chatted with the author. Ms Rochat has had a very interesting life having lived in many different places. Her father was a specialist mine shaft sinker and so wherever he was needed,

they would travel. As a result, she learned from a very early age, that the way you communicate determines the course of your relationships. A child needs friends and at every new school she had to make new ones and so from an early age communication was important to her.

Her joy now is in helping people to get their message across – often this is a little coaching to help them realise that they are already great speakers! This book is a practical guide, written from years of not only communicating successfully but also in coaching others to do the same. It is an easy read, engaging enough for the reader (from teens up) to finish and be able to immediately apply the simple principles. Her goal with this book – ‘whatever you read today, you put into practice tomorrow’; just that simple.

A delightful launch, with interesting people and best of all, a book that I want to add to my library.

Communication is a natural part of our lives, and speaking is something many of us do daily and often without thinking. And yet, the consequences of our words can be profound. When you speak, you can change the mood of a room—for better or for worse. Your words might inspire someone to believe in his or her ability. Your words can open up opportunities for you to enhance your reputation. Just as easily though, your words can showcase your vulnerabilities or ruin your or someone else’s day. As you speak, you can engineer your future career prospects or guarantee your own swift exit. Your speaking will identify which kind of leader you are and whether people want you on their team. Your speaking will determine whether or not you stand out from the crowd. When you master the art of speaking with purpose, doors will open up for you that you may never have imagined were within your reach. This book will take you on a journey to ensure your speaking enhances your reputation at all times, rather than detracts from it. Your speaking will build your brand and increase your presence and influence. Your speaking will connect you with those you are speaking to, in ways that are meaningful to them. In the process, you uncover a greater ability to achieve your goals. Your speaking will allow you to speak, connect and succeed.
