A wonderfully inspiring children’s book was launched by author Dolores Oldjohn. This book was inspired by her children, one of whom had a speech impairment and required extra encouragement. Ms Oldjohn said that she never thought to see her words published! However, she sat down one day and just started writing the words in her head. When she read these stories to her children, they loved them. She then challenged the children to share the stories with their friends, and those friends also loved them.
The following thoughts from this author stuck in my mind after this launch:
We need to teach our children the difference between fiction and non-fiction (imagination and reality)
Encouragement is oxygen to the soul
Parents must plant the seeds of greatness for their children to grow
Be aware of what you are modelling to your children.
We were treated not only to children enjoying themselves dancing but also to one of the stories being
read by her daughter. The message from this story – ‘I believe in myself and I am unstoppable!’
Ms Oldjohn’s second children’s book entitled ‘What I want to become when I am big like mom and dad’ has been written and will be available soon.
