Surviving I.C.U by Sonia Booth

‘Don’t be afraid of death; be afraid of a life unlived. You don’t have to live forever, you just have to live.’ Natalie Babbitt. This quote is placed on the back cover of this informational book. After experiencing severe pain in her abdomen, Ms Booth was finally admitted to hospital for an operation which became much, much more than was expected.

During this journey, Ms Booth learned some important lessons and hopes that by reading her book, you will hear them and take action in your own life.

The book is presented in diary format and has been compiled using notes the author made during her journey. It is a fascinating read, with a few photographs plus additional stories from others who have experienced similar journeys. Women need to be aware of their bodies, to not accept that excessive pain during sex or their menstrual cycle is ‘normal’ and to not be afraid or embarrassed to seek help or advice.

This is a read I would recommend to young girls, women and their partners to show them that sometimes, what you are told is ‘normal’, may not necessarily be so.
