My Shining Little Star

Twinkling lights and glittering stars were the décor of the day at Skoobs Theatre of Books for the launch of children’s book My Shining Little Star by Bhijal Parbhoo. Whilst the children bounced up and down in anticipation, the adults introduced themselves or greeted those they knew. Mahendra Raghunath, a shining star himself and prime time news anchor, was the elegant MC for this event.

Ms Parbhoo discussed the work she is involved in at a primary school. She started by going once a week to read to the children, but this has become so much more to her now and is where the idea for this book arose. A short slide presentation was given to show some of the work done by volunteers at the school.

During the event, the children present searched for ‘shining’ stars, and the audience was entertained by a trio of talented teen dancers and a pair of up-and-coming actresses reciting a poem. Regrettably, Ms Parbhoo’s nephew was overcome by shyness when his turn came to show off his amazing dance moves! However, two other young family members were very proud to read a short extract from the book – most entertaining!

Overall, a delightful launch for a book carrying the message – miracles are all around us if we take the time to look (believe + prayer = miracles)
