This is the first book in the Cult of the Cat series and the author’s debut novel.
Trinity has lived her life in an orphanage after she was left on its doorstep as a baby. High walls surround the convent and outings are few and far between, so Trinity’s experience of the outside world is limited. However, life is not bad and her best friend Brianna helps make it fun. A scuffle in the grounds results in a call to the Mother Superior’s office but what awaits her is completely unexpected.
The characters are easy to relate to and the scenery nicely described – I can picture the monastery looming over the island, watching all that goes on! I am fascinated by the author’s ability to give life to the characters (including the cats) Slugger is a cat I would dearly like to have. Trinity’s quest for information about her family seems rather hopeless but bits and pieces are gleaned here and there due to her persistence in asking for information. The romantic entanglement with Seth leaves a door wide-open for the next novels in the series. Some of the twists in the plot are unexpected and this is what made this book intriguing. Although I read this book over a period of time, this was due to my own time-constraints – had time permitted, I would have read this book from beginning to end in one sitting as it is quite a page turner.
A wonderful story recommended for young adults (of all ages!) who enjoy a mystery with a little of the paranormal mixed in with some Egyptian mythology.
