I've never really considered short stories as being a favourite of mine, but after reading Eye of a Needle and Other Stories I have changed my mind.
This author, who not only writes short stories but has three novels 'in the cupboard', has also written many poems and television scripts - an all-round writing talent! Qualified and experienced as a nurse, Ms Fick has also achieved a Masters Degree in Creative Writing.
David Krut Books in Parkwood, Johannesburg hosted the launch of this wonderful book of short stories - an interesting venue with stunning artworks displayed alongside the books.
The evening opened with a poetry reading,
followed by a talk by the author (very amusing!) and ended with the author's daughter reading 'Eye of a Needle' from the collection. Along with snacks and drinks, there were many new people to meet and chat with, making it an evening to remember.
