It is always great to hear authors relate stories on how their books have been received. Jann Weeratunga had such a nice encounter that I asked her to jot it down so that I could share it with you.
I was asked to write a true story I related to Kim the other evening, so here it is:
I recently returned to Craighall were I met Nicole and her friends as she came to collect a copy of Polly’s Piralympics she had bought and I was dedicating and signing for her.
Then I turned to her friend, who remembered me from my visit to their sister school Craigland’s Primary. I asked her had she read my book? She proudly announced that she was 20th for my book. I was puzzled and asked 20th what? She replied 20th in line for taking my book out from the library. When she told me this I went goosebumpy. You know that feeling eh? When something touches you and you don’t want to cry?
That meant there were 20 other children in the queue for my book in front of her wanting to read my book. I had given the school 3 books back in December and I think they share a library.
Some of her other friends came over and announced they had read my book and really liked it.
Does that mean my book has been taken out that much? I asked Mrs Prout-Jones the principal, and she informed me that Polly’s Piralympics was a very popular book at her school.
Do you know how special that made me feel? You kids rock!
