"Welcome to God's waiting room," he added, laughing at his own joke. "Nobody in this place buys green bananas, if you know what I mean."

Venkataraman, Barbara. Jeopardy in July (Kindle Locations 50-51).

Jaime Quinn visits an upmarket old age home when a couple living there requests her help with their divorce. People dying here is not an unusual event, but when it is only members of the poker club, Jamie starts looking into the matter. A crime committed forty years ago seems to be at the root of these unexpected deaths, but can she find the killer before someone she knows dies?

As always, Barbara Verkataraman’s plot is ingenious and unexpected. The story moves at a very satisfying rate with each page turned. The characters come to life as each is introduced during the unravelling of this mystery. Jamie Quinn is such a down-to-earth character that it is impossible not to identify with her and her cat, as she attempts to maintain a relationship with Kip while he is away. The P.I. Duke is an endearing character and I hope to see some of his back-story in a future story.

I love the humour in these stories; you never know when you will be giggling as the characters start dropping off! Overall, a wonderful read for lovers of cozy mysteries – a very satisfying tale that can be finished in an afternoon.
