The story beings with a murder – both assailant and victim unknown, on Joyce’s Tower above Forty Foot Cottage in Sandycove, Dublin. From there the ride begins, taking the reader down a path littered with red-herrings, side-plots and a few more bodies.

The skillful writing of this duo is incredible. We are given a sense of Ireland and the Irish throughout the book. The descriptive and historical writing is interwoven with the characteristics of the individuals in a flowing manner, making this an easy, interesting and entertaining read.

The story moves backwards and forwards in time, highlighting the Easter Uprising and its centennial anniversary in 2016 along with the actions of Boko Haram in Nigeria which have affected so many, to the personal lives of the delightful characters portrayed in this story. DCS Firinne Jeffries is kept busy dealing with her own demons alongside her police duties, making her a character one can relate to. The supporting characters, each having their own personalities, add to a plot which is at times frustrating (I mean, come on…who dun it?) and yet delightful in its complexity and unraveling.

This is writing to be savoured with a plot and characters which will remain with you after the story is finished. I highly recommend this book to any murder / mystery reader – you will be missing out if you do not read it.
